You may know Niantic as the creator of the AR legendary game, Pokémon Go. In an effort to bring more joy to Marvel kids (and adults, let’s be honest), it’s making a new game called Marvel World of Heroes. It will also be an augmented reality experience, letting you be one of the MCU superheroes.

The new Marvel World of Heroes is already creating tons of excitement. I don’t think the plan is to find MCU characters in your home and on the streets like in Pokémon Go. From the announcement trailer below, it seems you’ll take on the appearance and powers of your favorite heroes and villains.

Some of the heroes that may appear in Marvel World of Heroes include the likes of Hulk, Thor, Spider-man, and Doctor Strange. It seems we may even see some of the popular X-Men, specifically Wolverine. Are you ready to brush up on your Australian accent?

While the trailer gives us some idea of what to expect, we have no clue how Marvel World Heroes will work. I’ve been thinking about it a lot since I saw the news, and I’m slightly confused. Will we be aiming the camera at ourselves for a selfie while we wield virtual powers? What will the social aspect entail, and how do we knock them off their feet?

I’m actually shocked at this news. At the end of June, we reported that Niantic was in a state of financial crisis while canceling projects. How has it managed to sort out its issues while onboarding such a monumental task? I’m sure many of the employees it fired are asking the same question. In any event, I’m glad to see we may have a new Marvel AR game soon.
